An easy nature trail of about 0.75 km takes the visitor to Mini World's End, which
is a deep escarpment situated at Pitawala Pathana. It resembles a small version
of the world famous World's End in Horton Plains.. The place is called “Mini world’s
end” as it resembles a smaller version of the “world’s end” drop situated at Horton
Plains National Park.. This place grants a panoramic view of the Knuckles Range
and some of its valleys below. If you are trekking in the Knuckles Area, do not
miss a chance to see this view, a drop of almost 300 meters.
Nitro cave is a large cave hidden deep in the southern parts of Knuckles Mountains.
Inhabited by hundreds of thousands of bats for possibly many hundred thousand years
had made this cave a rich deposit of saltpeter (potassium nitrate) traditionally
used to make gun powder. It is believed that this cave was used as a source of saltpeter
by rulers of Sri Lanka for more than thousand five hundred years.
The designated nature trail leads the visitors easily to the escarpment. From there
it is possible to walk along to the rock extrusion which allows one to walk right
up to the edge.
