Introduction

Kirivehera is an ancient Dagaba. It is first taken which about Buddhist heritage of sacred place in Kataragama.

History

First built by a local ruler called Mahasena, upon a site hallowed by a visit of Lord Buddha, it is said to have enshirned in it the golden seat, from which Lord Buddha delivered the sermon, a lock of hair and the royal sword (magul kaduwa) used by Prince Siddharthe to cut off his hair at the time of the Great Renunciation. The place is also connected with the reign of late Dappula 1 (659 DC) and King Vijaya Bahu 1 (1055-1110 DC)
